#### **Symposium**

The 2010 Ackerman Program on Medicine & Culture focused on the 1910 publication of the Carnegie-funded report on *Medical Education in the United States and Canada* by Abraham Flexner (1866—1959). The publication is remembered as a watershed moment in the standardization of scientific medicine, and a key catalyst in the restriction of medical practice to an elite profession.
